In alignment with No Pesticide Use Week 2024, grassroots women leaders gathered to demand agroecological transformation and secure a safe, toxin-free environment for the next generation.
On December 10, 2024, a powerful display of grassroots advocacy took place as local women leaders united for the Community-Based Protect Our Children (POC) Campaign-2024. Organized by Md. Zillur Rahman, Director of Programs at SHISUK, the initiative strategically mobilized mothers and community women to take a stand against the harmful impacts of agricultural chemicals on youth and public health.
A Call for Corporate Accountability
The grassroots gathering was launched in observance of No Pesticide Use Week (NPUW) 2024, operating under the global theme: “A Call for Corporate Accountability and Agroecological Transformation”. With collaborative support from PAN Asia Pacific, the campaign highlighted the urgent need to transition away from toxic agricultural practices and implement structural, nature-based farming solutions.
During the outdoor community session, Md. Zillur Rahman addressed the gathered women, facilitating vital discussions on how to safeguard children’s health through localized agricultural reform.
Empowering Community Protectors
Women play an indispensable role in shaping community health and household nutrition. Recognizing their critical position as protectors of the environment, the participating women proudly displayed their campaign pledges and raised their fists in collective solidarity.
By centering women’s leadership within the Protect Our Children campaign, SHISUK continues to empower marginalized communities to hold food systems accountable. Through sustained grassroots mobilization, these women leaders are championing agroecology to build a healthier, more resilient future for their children.
