Who We Are
SHISUK, a national NGO has been working on community development and sustainable agriculture since its inception in 1994. Daudkandi is one of the best practice site, where in 1997 SHISUK pioneered Community based collective enterprise initiative on floodplain Aquaculture (popularly known as Daudkandi model). SHISUK has awarded National Gold medal by The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in 1999 as the pioneer of the Community Enterprise model for floodplain.
The model has selected as one of the SAARC Best Practice for livelihood development in 2007.
What We Do
- support of Bangladesh Government (KGF) SHISUK is now implementing adaptive trial in other floodplains of the country like Tidal floodplains in the coast and depressed area in North of Bangladesh.
- SHISUK is implementing program with the support of FAO Bangladesh to promote Food Safety Culture in Bangladesh since 2009
- The key focus of the intervention in Daudkandi is to ensure food safety of the aquaculture and agriculture production in that area.
- We support peasants, indigenous peoples, and small food producers through grassroots campaigns, documentation of human rights violations, and policy advocacy.
- SHISUK has been collaborating with the Government of Bangladesh, academia and civil society organizations, private companies/ producers, and other key partners including UN and donor agencies, to bring about desired changes. SHISUK works at different levels starting down from the grass-root levels to the national level and at the regional level outside the country.

- SHISUK works at local level with the community and is involved in community mobilization activities in five districts under three Divisions of Bangladesh. SHISUK is currently working in 10 districts of 4 divisions, Dhaka, Comilla, Manikgonj, Gopalgonj, Barisal, Patuakhali, Jalakati, Sirajgonj, Pabna, and Natore
Leadership
SHISUK is governed by its constitution and 9 member Executive committee. This body is mainly playing role on policy-making issues of the organization and approve the programs and activities implementing by the organization.

Our History
SHISUK (Shikkha Shastha Unnayan Karzakram) is a development organization in Bangladesh focused on education, health, and sustainable community development. It works by engaging both disadvantaged and influential groups to promote participation and good governance. The organization mainly focuses on agriculture, entrepreneurship, and safe migration to improve livelihoods. SHISUK promotes ecological farming, food security, and discourages harmful agro-chemical use. Its Community Enterprise Approach has received national and regional recognition for best practices. The organization operates across multiple districts, working from grassroots to national levels. It collaborates with government bodies, NGOs, and international agencies. SHISUK emphasizes self-reliance, equitable resource management, and community empowerment. Its management structure includes an Executive Committee and professional program team. Overall, SHISUK aims to create sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven development.
The model has selected as one of the SAARC Best Practice for livelihood development in 2007.
