To celebrate World Bee Day, SHISUK partnered with local experts and international advocates to provide 25 school children with a hands-on environmental education experience. The interactive workshop seamlessly connected the importance of bee conservation with the movement to create safer, pesticide-free futures for youth.
On May 20, 2024, an atmosphere of curiosity and excitement took hold as 25 enthusiastic school children gathered to celebrate World Bee Day. Organized by the North Bengal Bee Keeper Association in collaboration with SHISUK and PANAP, this vibrant workshop offered students a unique opportunity to step outside a traditional classroom and engage directly with the natural world.
A Hands-On Approach to Environmental Education
The core of the event was designed around practical, experiential learning. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of beekeeping through firsthand observation and interactive activities. During the workshop, the children learned about the intricate life cycle of bees and the crucial role these insects play in pollination—a natural process that is essential for maintaining ecological balance and sustaining our food systems.
Beyond learning the science of pollination, the young participants were taught simple, actionable steps they can take to support bee conservation in their daily lives.
