Shikha Shastha Unnayan Karzakram (SHISUK) actively participated as a key sponsor in the two-day ‘Nutricareer Fest 2026’, organized by the Pushtibid Foundation at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University on June 26–27, 2026. The event convened aspiring nutritionists, researchers, and young professionals to explore career pathways and structural solutions to Bangladesh’s food and nutrition challenges.
Rethinking Nutrition: From Plot to Plate
Speaking as a Special Guest at the opening plenary, Sakiul Millat Morshed, Executive Director of SHISUK, urged emerging nutritionists to look beyond conventional dietary counseling and engage directly with the broader food system.
If food is not safe at the source, nutrition loses its foundational purpose.
Morshed stressed that nutritional outcomes cannot be isolated from agricultural practices. He called on youth leaders to address the entire supply chain—from plot to plate—and underscored the critical role nutrition professionals must play in navigating climate vulnerabilities and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Special Session: Agroecology Movement for Safe and Nutritious Food
On the second day of the fest (June 27), SHISUK convened a dedicated thematic session titled ‘Agroecology Movement for Safe and Nutritious Food’, focusing on sustainable, ecologically grounded food production as an imperative for public health.
The session was chaired by Shahanaz Arefin, former Senior Secretary, with the keynote address delivered by Prof. Rezaul Karim Siddique, CEO of the Safe Food Foundation (B-Safe Foundation).
Key highlights of the session included:
- Keynote Address: Prof. Rezaul Karim Siddique highlighted systemic vulnerabilities in current food production models and presented ecological agriculture as the viable pathway to eliminate chemical contamination and protect public health.
- Organizational Presentation: Khansa Rahman, Program Officer at SHISUK, delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing how agroecological principles are applied in SHISUK’s grassroots programs to build climate-resilient, community-managed food systems.
- Session Moderation: The technical discussions and open floor dialogue were moderated by Amanna Jahan Biva, Research Associate at SHISUK.
Mobilizing Youth for a Resilient Food System
Through its engagement at Nutricareer Fest 2026, SHISUK reiterated that resolving nutritional deficits requires an agricultural paradigm shift. SHISUK remains committed to mobilizing young professionals, civil society, and grassroots communities to advance an agroecological transition that delivers safe, climate-resilient, and accessible food for all.
